BAT

Q: Which of the following is not part of the Bleeding Assessment Tool (BAT)? - select one

A) Epistaxis
B) Cutaneous Bruising
C) GI Bleeding
D) Hemoptysis
E) Haematuria

Answer: D

The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis has developed a bleediոg assessment tool (BAT) to minimize blood workup while ruling out bleеdiոg disorders. The score has been validated in different bleeding situations and is available free online at all search engines. It consists of 14 variables.
  • Epistaxis
  • Cutaneous Bruising
  • Bleeding from minor wounds
  • Oral Cavity Bleeding
  • GI Bleeding
  • Haematuria
  • Dental Extractions
  • Surgery
  • Menorrhagia
  • Post-partum Haemorrhage
  • Muscle Haematomas
  • Haemarthrosis
  • CNS Bleeding
  • Other Bleeding Problems

A low BAΤ score, i.e., < 3 in males and < 5 in females, is a good predictor of no underlying bleeding disorder.

Hemoptysis is mostly due to localized trachea-bronchial or pulmonary causes.
