PCS and sleep

Q: The postconcussion syndrome (PCS) is associated with daytime sleepiness.

A) True
B) False

Answer: A

Almost all patients who went through Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) experience PCS with a wide variety of symptoms.

One common symptom is a sleep-wake disorder characterized by increased daytime sleepiness and insomnia at night. The cause is circadian rhythm disturbances. The associated symptoms include abnormal behaviors during sleep, such as sleep talking, bruxism, and dream enactment, as well as sleep-disordered breathing.
