Aztreonam cross allergenicity

Q: Which cephalosporin allergy may also cause an allergy to aztreonam? - select one

A) Cefazolin
B) Cefuroxime
C) Ceftazidime
D) Cefepime
E) Ceftaroline

Answer: C

As a rule of thumb, there is no cross-allergenicity between aztreonam and other beta-lactam antibiotics, except ceftazidime. This cross-allergenicity between aztreonam and ceftazidime allergies is due to a shared side chain, called the R1 side chain.
