Q:What is the
risk of adding bicarbonate in IVF during treatment of
Rhabdomyolysis?
Answer: The addition
of bicarbonate to the IVF to make the urine more alkaline to prevent cast
formation in the kidneys is no more recommended. Data fail to show any benefit
above saline alone, and actually it can worsen hypocalcemia by enhancing calcium
and phosphate deposition in the tissues.
